Lot #124 1795. Off-center Bust. B-14; BB-51

Description:

1795. Off-center Bust. B-14; BB-51. PCGS graded Good-6. Light even toning on both sides. Even wear and pleasing for the modest grade. This was the first year of the appearance of the Draped Bust, Small Eagle type coin, which soon spread to all other silver coins in production in 1796, and the Draped Bust design was adopted for Half Cents (1800 on) and Large Cents (mid 1796). The Draped Bust type was quite popular with the public after some of the early designs were not viewed favorably on copper and silver coins. This was likely the first die engraved with the Draped Bust design, as the head is placed too far to the left on the die, giving an unbalanced look to the coin. Historic and long appreciated for its attractive design despite the head placement on this particular issue. A good collector coin (PCGS # 39996) Estimated Value $1,700 - UP
The Highland Estate.
