1795. Off Center Bust. B-14, BB-51. Rarity-2. PCGS graded AU-58. CAC. Premium Quality confirmed. In an Old Green Holder. Well struck, free from defects and gorgeous natural russet and violet-grey toning on both sides. The strike is bold on Liberty's hair curls, the stars and even the eagle's proud breast feathers. The wings show all the finer touches of feather details as imparted by the dies. This was the first appearance of the Draped Bust, Small Eagle design. Only two obverse dies were prepared in late 1795, this one where the head of Liberty was placed too far to the left, and another obverse die where the head of Liberty was more centered. Hence the left obverse field on this off-center bust is tiny while the right field is large and open. Free of all but a few minor circulation marks, but they are old and blend into the surfaces and toning with ease. The reverse is similar with nearly perfect surfaces and just a few light peripheral adjustment marks noted at the rims, rather typical of this era and imparted by the Philadelphia Mint to "adjust" the planchet weight slightly down to the fairly exacting standards required. A stellar example of this popular type coin and one of the finer examples known with unending eye appeal and outstanding quality.
