Rubellite is the red or pink variety of tourmaline with red and purplish red being the most valuable of all tourmaline varieties. It is frequently mistaken for ruby and pink sapphire and actually rarer than rubies. Moonstone is found in many parts of the world and is prized for its natural optic effect of blue to white shimmer referred to adularescence. Gem quality examples are truly beautiful.
There are 104.3 carats of rubellite in this necklace. The largest stone is the pear shaped drop 45 x 19 mm, the teardrop 20.75 x 13.5 mm and the two oval cabochons 12.5 x 10.5 mm. All four stones exhibit only the slightest trace of needle like occlusions and have remarkable transparency, the purplish red tones matched to perfection. There are 16.50 carats of moonstone and each have the shimmer of moonlight, the colors of blues and whites shine when captured in sunlight.
Finally, there are a total of 1.95 carats of round brilliant cut diamonds, G Color VS clarity and they do dazzle bringing wonderful sparkle to the necklace. The 14K yellow gold necklace is 18" in length and dotted with ten (10) drum shaped beads alternating with rubellite and diamond accents.
