Outstanding Micro-Mosaic Pendant of Classic Roman Architecture of Exquisitely Detailed Craftsmanship. Micro-mosaics from Italy proved an immensely popular souvenir of travel by Americans and Brits in the 1870s. As people traveled to view ruins, the idea of the tiniest cut tiles, smaller than grains of rice, fashioned into mosaics of ancient buildings and art. Offered is a superior example of this art, likely from the mid-1870s of a micro-mosaic set into black glass. Within the last 25 years, the mosaic was set in a custom, 14K yellow gold bezel well supported on verso. The black glass border on the obverse have three flea bit nicks, and on the verso and flinty chip. In no way do these impact the integrity and artistry of the mosaic.
Mosaic measures 1.18" inches, with bezel is 1.25". Total gross weight 16.55 grams. A 25" gold tone necklace is included. An exceptional pendant.
