Gemini 3: Exceptional Archive of Photos in Sequential Order by Serial Numbers. A Complete Overview of the Mission in 166 Photos. Gemini 3 launched on March 23, 1965 was the first crewed mission on NASA'S Project Gemini, with astronauts Gus Grissom and John Young's flight lasting almost five hours. The main objective was to test the capsule maneuverability in firing thrusters to change its orbit. The capsule was nicknamed "Molly Brown" famously confirmed by fellow Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper during liftoff, "Your on your way Molly Brown!"
Project Gemini is often referred to as the "bridge to the moon." It spanned the period between Project Mercury, America's first efforts to determine if humans could survive in space, and the Apollo lunar landing flights.
Overall the mission was a resounding success but John Young's smuggled corned beef sandwich was not near as amusing to Mission Control as it was for everyone else.
