Arthur Kolnik, "Abraham and the Angels", Original Oil on Board. Arthur Kolnik (Ukrainian, 1890-1972), "Abraham and the Angels" oil on board, signed lower right. Image: 25 x 36". Kolnik studied at The Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow beginning in 1909 and after, joined the millions in WWI. After serving he came to the US to exhibit his work, moving to Paris in 1931 His works did embody the surreal however in this work there is almost an American folk art nature he approached giving it great appeal. In the biblical story of Genesis 18, three angels appear to Abraham in the form of men. He initially treats them as travelers, offering them hospitality with food and rest which is captured wonderfully in this work. Excellent condition
