Shlomo Bernstein: "Gentleman Playing a Tar" Original Oil on Canvas Mounted on Wood Panel (1904-1969) Israeli born painter of landscapes and genre painting who enjoyed decades long acclaim. Outstanding portrait of a senior Persian Jewish gentleman wearing a colorful prayer hat playing a rare, 6-stringed plucked instrument called a tar. The instrument and this style of silk coat/kaftan were found in Turkey, Iran and Central Asia holdovers from the Ottoman Empire, ca. 1920-30.
Original oil on canvas attached to wood panel is in excellent condition and of impressive size. Minimally framed to 32 x 27.5" and not heavy at all with regards to shipping.
