Ladies 19th Century Chinese Brooch Exquisitely Carved From Amber with 10K Yellow Gold Scalloped Stem. A stunning example of 150+ year old amber incorporated into an 1890's brooch of exquisite craftsmanship. The high relief and detail of the rose and leafy accents take one's breath away. Amber of this quality and intense dark hue comes slowly from a yellow color, to dark reddish brown which gives it a natural, rich patina.
The brooch is carved from what appears two be matching pieces of amber, however the craftsmanship is so extraordinary you cannot see the seam on the obverse. The single rose is most definitely from a large, single piece with a second piece forming the bottom petals and taper to the stems. The brooch is 5" tall and 3" wide. with a tiger claw clip on verso that will most certainly be secure on any coat. The 10K yellow gold detail wrapping the stems has a fine, natural patina. Total weight is 53 grams so not heavy at all which is another quality of amber.
