Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun. Self Portrait. Painting on opaque glass, 6 x 4 1/8 in. of Vigée Le Brun's 1790 Self Portrait. Signed "V.Lebrun" at lower right. The image on the easel is of Marie Antoinette. In period wood frame, 12 x 10 in., with brass matte and brass plaque which says in German, "Vigée-Lebrun / Self portrait of the artist." Edges of frame are rough and need refinishing. Back of frame has a Romanian stamp, "O.P.C.N. / Maramures." Faint scratches and deteriorating varnish; otherwise, a beautiful portrait.
