Herbert B. Leonard, Producer: THE ADVENTURES OF RIN-TIN-TIN 1956-1959. 26 Scripts in 2 Volumes Plus Leonard's Personal Production Boards (1922-2006) Herbert B. Leonard was a producer and writer during the explosion of dramatic television in the late 1950s into the early 60's as well as a production manager for Screen Gems for a number of years. He is remembered for two landmark television series, NAKED CITY and ROUTE 66 with both revolutionizing the semi-anthology format. But prior to those landmark series, at Screen Gems he produced the children's Western series THE ADVENTURES OF RIN-TIN-TIN and idea that came to him while visiting a Western set. The series is based on the legendary Rin Tin Tin from the 20's and 30's. 27 films were produced with actually two dogs over the course of filming. Leonard was able to cast two descendants from the dogs of the 20s and 30's (great publicity) there was substantial help from a third dog for the role who proved a winner.
Offered are two volumes of 13 episodes, 26 total of the 164 episodes aired over five years. No knowledge as to why these 26 scripts were chosen for bookbinding in blue leather by California Bookbinding, Hollywood. Both volumes and the 26 scripts are in superior condition.
Also included is Leonard's personal production boards. Clearly a firm hold (grip) on production costs was of significant priority as he was limited to only $50,000 per episode. Numerous calls for same day shots at certain locations spanning numerous episodes. A fascinating "relic" of movie making long ago replaced by computer/digital equipment.
