General Philip Sheridan: Celebrated Union General of the Civil War, Later the Indian Wars and Protector of Yellowstone National Park (1831-1888) Career Army officer and Union General who enjoyed a close association with Ulysses Grant. He famously lead his cavalry pursue General Robert E. Lee which proved instrumental in his surrender at Appomattox. On a much broader and contemporary scale, he was instrumental in the development and protection of Yellowstone National Park, both as a soldier and a private citizen.
