Horace Greeley; Newspaper Publisher and Founder of the NY Tribune, Editor and Presidential Candidate Two Autographed Letters Signed (1811-1872) Colorful and immensely successful founder and publisher of the New York Tribune who was a congressman elected in 1848 and ran in the 1872 presidential election against Ulysses Grant. He was a staunch abolitionist who dedicated his influential newspaper to opposing slavery and became one of the nation's most prominent voices against the institution. Offered are two ALS in fine condition one from 1853 and one dated 1856. The 1853 is to I.B. Cooley, Kansas regarding lecture availability (or confirming availability.) The second to a gentleman in Henrietta, NY, regarding the recommendation of a James C. Jackson. Greeley writes he is not familiar as to how skilled he is but his information overall is favorable.
