Henry Clay Autographed Letter Signed as Senator of Kentucky Dated 1833, with Antique Engraving (1777-1852) Kentucky statesman of distinction having both served the state in Congress and the Senate, the 7th Speaker of the House, Secretary of State to John Quincy Adams and founder of the Republican Party. ALS dated Washington, 24, May 1836 while Senator of Kentucky. Content is regarding a speech by Clay regarding a a land bill and sending copies of documents relating to the President's Veto Message. However his speech has yet to be published so sending a copy of another speech given by "Ewing". Clay signs "Yours Respectfully H. Clay" 6.5 x 8", some paper lifts on verso, legible and in very fine condition.
Also included is an unusual clerical draft of a document for Henry Clay including where to place the seal. It is dated 1813 and is a demand for payment of $20.00. Written in iron gall ink on laid paper. 12.5 x 8" and note, none is Clay's handwriting but an interesting manuscript none the less.
