Robert E. Lee: Outstanding Framed Presentation with Wisps of His Hair and Autographed Free Frank Signed (1807-1870) Confederate general and storied military leader during the American Civil War. Initially against secession and a supporter of the Crittendon Compromise which would have protected the constitutionality of slavery. His command of the Confederate Army, his tactical prowess and leadership has been studied and evaluated all of it crashing at Gettysburg and after a few skirmishes, his surrender to Grant proved all but inevitable. Offered is a presentation, framed, of some age with an original carte de visite (faded) with a 19th Century small oval brooch of glass and brass with a number of strands of his hair inside not unlike a Victorian locket. But it is the autograph free frank signed in Lee's hand to his wife that is the highlight in this presentation. 11 x 10" and in excellent condition. Estimated Value $700 - 1,200
