Winfield Scott Hancock - Signed Calling Card. Maj. Gen. Winfield Scott Hancock (1824-1886), one of the most respected Union corps commanders of the Civil War, is best remembered for his leadership at Gettysburg, where he played a decisive role in stabilizing the Union line on Cemetery Ridge and repelling Pickett's Charge. After the war, he continued a distinguished military career and became the Democratic nominee for President in 1880.
This is a fine signed calling card, boldly signed Hancock in dark ink. The card shows mild toning consistent with age, with light corner discoloration, but the signature itself remains clean and well-preserved. The reverse bears an old collector's pencil notation identifying Hancock and referencing his 1880 Democratic presidential candidacy against James A. Garfield.
