Outstanding Large Roman Bow Fibula made of Bronze with an Excellent Patina. Very impressive Roman bronze bow fibula. Fibulas could be decorative but their main function was fastening garments usually at the right shoulder. These replaced straight pins that were used for years earlier. The fibula appeared in the Bronze age, looking like safety pins. Soon after they took on a myriad of styles with some having opulent designs for the elite. Offered is a large fibula made of bronze and could certainly gather and pin thick layers of fabric. The fibula measures 4.5 x 2.25" and has a fine greenish-brown patina. Estimated Value $500 - 800
