Robert Ortlieb. "The Three Graces". (1925-2011) Ortlieb was a popular Southern California sculptor known for his abstract and biomorphic pieces cast in bronze, acrylic or carved in stone. His career spanned over 50 years enjoying large public commissions and represented in museums worldwide. His list of galleries and exhibitions is considerable. Offered is one of his patinated bronzes, exact date unknown, but purchased in a Los Angeles gallery in the early 1970s at his peak. A remarkable, modern take on the Three Graces, the fluid bodies of the Daughters of Zeus and Eurynome, serve as attendants to Aphrodite, fostering fertility, art, and joyous social connection. The bronze is displayed on a marble base and on a round matching marble plinth with the sculpture able to rotate smoothly and easily do all side can be admired. Beautiful work by this acclaimed sculptor.
