Anonymous, Knitted Mizrach Panel Circa 1900. Hand-knitted Mizrach devotional textile, worked in polychrome yarn on open canvas ground, featuring a symmetrical arrangement of ritual symbols including the menorah, birds, ceremonial vessels, and Hebrew inscriptions, with the central date "1900" incorporated into the design. Such Mizrach panels were traditionally displayed on the eastern wall of Jewish homes to indicate the direction of prayer toward Jerusalem. Housed in a period wood frame. Visible age wear, losses, and toning consistent with use and age, as shown. A scarce and visually striking example of turn-of-the-century Jewish folk textile art.
