Miniature Hebrew Prayer Book (Beith Tefilah), Livorno, 1837. A finely produced miniature Hebrew prayer book titled Beith Tephilah ("House of Prayer"), containing prayers for the entire year according to the Italian rite, together with the supplemental work Tikun Shabbath. Printed in Livorno in 1837 by Salomone Gentilhomme, one of the principal Hebrew printers active in Tuscany during the early 19th century.
The volume is housed in an attractive contemporary polished calf binding, fitted with prominent decorative metal hinges in the form of stylized seashells and a central clasp, an especially distinctive and ornamental feature rarely surviving intact on small devotional books. The compact format reflects its intended function as a portable personal prayer book, suitable for daily use and travel.
The interior comprises two sections, collated as ff. 224 and 68, and is lightly foxed throughout, consistent with age. Title page and text present in Hebrew typography characteristic of Livorno imprints of the period. Ownership inscriptions, later notations, and an institutional stamp are present, providing evidence of long-term devotional use and later collection history.
Light foxing. Binding rubbed with wear consistent with age and devotional handling. Hinges and clasp intact. Ownership inscriptions and institutional markings present.
