Roman Bronze Rams Head Patera Handle 1st-3rd A.D. A patera was a round shallow dish or bowl with a handle (looks like a small frying pan) used by the Romans in religious ceremonies either holding wine or blood of sacrificial animals. The handles could be quite ornamental such as this head of a ram having wonderful details including the curved horns. But what is so appealing is the patina in russet and deep green colors. 5 x 1 x 1" and is displayed on a custom onyx base and mount. A very appealing piece for any level of collector.
