Roman/Egyptian Schist Fragment of Aphrodite ca 1st Century B.C.-1st Century A.D. Schist fragment of Aphrodite (the goddess of love) washing her hair. Schist clearly copied from an earlier classical Greek work. On verso a flora and geometric pattern. Likely from a mirror or bowl, fragment is complete in itself, a beautifully carved piece with remarkable detail. 40 x 30mm
Reportedly found and subsequently purchased in Alexandria in the very early 1960s. Estimated Value $500 - 800
