Boring & Haas (Architects). Monumental Artist's Rendering of The Arcadia Hotel in Santa Monica. The Arcadia Hotel in Santa Monica, CA was an ultra-luxurious, ocean front hotel in business from 1886-1909 during an explosive growth of building and expansion in Los Angeles. Catering to the elite, the hotel was five stories tall, a ballroom for 200, with observation rooms to the ocean. It featured every imaginable luxury and could be seen for miles. It was built not with automobiles in mind but access only by carriages and its own private "railway" that appeared more akin to a slow rollercoaster given the undulations. Offered is a monumental artist's rendering of the hotel that hung in the lobby. This might be one of the last relics from this historic hotel and it is a most impressive work. It measures 27.5" tall but is 7 Ft. wide. It is painted on a very thin canvas which explains the glass and some protection on the verso.Again this is a remarkable piece of California history and also includes two mortgage bonds issued in 1886 with the image of the hotel engraved very much mirroring the large painting offered. LOCAL PICKUP ONLYPlease know it must be picked up locally due to size and the large piece of glass. But for any California institution, resident or student of history with wall space, this is treasure. Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000
