Lot #528 Antique Aneroid Banjo Style Barometer in Superior Condition ca. Late 19th Century

Description:

Antique Aneroid Banjo Style Barometer in Superior Condition ca. Late 19th Century. Outstanding antique, aneroid barometer in superior quality late 19th CenturyAneroid barometers do not use liquid to measure air pressure. Instead, the subtle pressure changes in atmospheric conditions affect a series of vacuum capsules and, through springs, register this movement on the circle face at the bottom of the case. Especially nice is the barometer is transparent, revealing the inner workings. Best the porcelain is bright white with black and red graphics which are very easy to read. The cabinet is oak and darkly finished and very nicely carved. The barometer appears to be working well. However California doesn't have dramatic weather changes so the dial remains on FAIR and the temperature gauge at 71. A great piece even for the modern home. Estimated Value $400 - 800
