Pâte de Verre (crushed glass paste) has been around for centuries however it was the French in the early 20th Century that brought the artistry to an elitie level. Along with Gabriel Argy Rousseau, Amalric Walter along with designs by Henri Berge were well know for their mastery in making glass paste objects. This inkwell is a phenomenal example and rare. A tree stump with a lid topped with an oversized bumble bee, actually holds ink. It is surrounded by vines with colorful berries extending to the opposite edge. At the front is horizontal recess, edge to edge where a pen would rest. 4.75 x 6.25" and in flawless condition. A. Walter Nancy is pressed into the top at far left side.
