Slave Related Content from The New England Weekly Journal from 1728. An extremely rare original copy of The New England Weekly Journal dated Monday April 8, 1728. There are less than a handful of original pages in existence. This original has been framed sandwiched between two pieces of glass and can be read on obverse and reverse. On the verso is a short column "Advertisements" which lists a school to be opened for the instruction of "Negro's in Reading, Catechizing & Writing and for those inclined to send as servants to said school near Mrs. Chicklee's Meeting House as well as "A very likely Negro Woman 22 who can do household or Town or Country service to be sold inquiry of this printer". Finally "A very likely negro girl about 13 or 14 years of age speaks good English and has been in the country for years to be sold Inquire of the Printer.On the obverse, from Robert Hunter, Captain General Declaration in Council regarding a trust at the request of his majesty, and the replies which of council to the king which could best be described as overripe. This is just one of other "reporting" printed in this April 8, 1928 issue. Printed on rag paper, manuscript is soiled splitting with archival tape holding in check, framed to be read on both side and measures 18 x 11.25 in newish oak frame.
