J.F. Herring Jr. "English Barnyard" Oil on Canvas. (1815-1907) Son of acclaimed painter John Fredrick Herring Sr. one of England's greatest sporting and equestrian painters whose works were frequently sold as lithographs. Surprisingly, all the sons of Herring Sr. took up painting but it was John Frederick Herring Jr. (J.F. Herring Jr.) who excelled. As his artistry vastly improved, he stepped away from rigid forms of his father and his scenic styles became wider, frequently incorporating birds and animals along rivers and certainly capturing farming in lovely, realistic fashion to much acclaim. Offered is a wonderful example of Herring Jr's work. Stunning detail in every regard; the lighting, the skies, the villages in the background. But it is the ducks, the baby goats and most especially the horses and the glint of their coats. (those are not chips on back of horse, it's straw) that are superbly rendered. All the elements are here that made Herring Jr.'s work so prized.Painting is in superior condition. Canvas measures 28 x 36" and framed beautifully in gilt wood to 28 x 36" with plaque identifying Herring Jr. at center of bottom frame.
