(Note the dates on the frame say 1674-1734 do not match her life span of 1692-1713) In the 17th and 18th centuries, successful portrait painters like Belle ran active ateliers. These legitimate studios required multiple studio-assisted replicas based on the demand by allies, royal family members and patrons. It appears that the gilt oval frame and the darkened black panel with various notations in paper on the verso are original. Easily noted are the large brass tabs to hold panel in place are contemporary. Panel is 9.5 x 8" and with the oval frame, 12.5 x 10.5".
