Description:

Uniface Reverse Trial Pattern 1948 25 Mils Coin. Very rare test strike of Israel's first coins, minuscule amount of about 100 uniface pieces made. Kagin-2d; Sylvia Haffner writes: "The production was extremely slow, and the technical factors were very poor. This short-lived coin was minted under difficult conditions during the height of the Israel-Arab War of 1948. The coins were struck by Alfred Salzman in a mechanical workshop in Jerusalem. It was decided not to release the coins for circulation, but due to the great shortage of small currency they were brought temporarily into use. The estimated mintage figure by the Bank of Israel is 42,000 dated 1948." Uncirculated. Pop 1; the finest graded at PCGS. PCGS graded Specimen 61. Estimated Value $400 - UP Holyland Sale of the Century.
