Description:

Very Rare Operation Sinai Silver State Medal. Operation Sinai (Suez Crisis) appreciation medal issued after the Suez Crisis, 1956. This impressive 80mm, 230gm. silver plated medal was presented to only 34 French military officers who assisted Israel during the Sinai Campaign in 1956. It was issued by the Israeli Ministry of Defense as a confidential token of appreciation, and bears the signature of David Ben-Gurion on the reverse; he was both Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. Reverse inscription lacks patina. The obverse inscription "Ta droite est mon appui" translates as "Your right hand is my support." This example is likely one of a few dozen unofficial restrikes reportedly made later for collectors. Estimated Value $200 - UP Holyland Sale of the Century.
