1844-D. NGC graded AU-58. Boldly struck with light golden toning and traces of flashy semi reflective surfaces peeking through; some faint hairlines. Well struck on the hair waves and lovelock curl. For its part, the eagle is possessed of full neck and wing feathers, complete plumage on the legs, and full talons -- a bonus for collectors who prefer the rarer D (and C) mint dates. These rarely show such forthright detail. Only 17, 332 struck.
Pop 40; 20 finer (PCGS # 7736) .
