1798 S-153 R3 Large 8, Style I Hair VG8. Off Center. Sharpness VF30 but there is a dull, strong dent on the throat that caused a bulge at the bottom of the E in ONE. In addition, the rim was damaged left of the hair ribbon and at the opposing area above D-ST, and the planchet displays shallow irregular erosion mixed with fine roughness. No verdigris. Rather glossy dark steel and olive. MDS. Struck 5-10% off center to K-5 leaving the lower half of the date off the planchet. A sharp cent and an impressive mint error in spite of the obvious defects.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
