1798 S-156 R5+ Small 8, Style I Hair, Reverse of 1796 Basal State-1. Heavily worn and there are strong contact marks covering the face and a deep cut near the rim at K-8 on the reverse. In spite of the heavy wear and strong contact marks, the surfaces are mostly smooth and glossy. Fortunately the date is strong and the single leaf feature at the top of the wreath is still visible. Enough of the details are clear to easily attribute this piece as the very rare S-156 die variety. Nothing more than a hole filler, but it is a very tough hole, indeed.
