Apollo 17, 1972, "Taurus-Littrow" 3-D Lunar Landing Site Topographical Map (44.5x34") This 1:40,000 scale black and white pressed-plastic map of the Taurus-Littrow landing site was designed to give the astronaut crew a sense of orientation as they came in for their lunar landing. Prepared for NASA by the Defense Mapping Agency Topographic Center, Washington, DC, this map was prepared in only limited quantities, per special request (probably less than 12 copies of each map were made). It is interesting to note that
this map is marked: "The names shown are for reference mission planning purposes only and are not to be considered formal designations". This is the first example of this alternate Apollo 17 map we have seen. The maps offered in this sale represent the complete series of this type of map made. All are in unusually nice condition except as noted (very minor edge faults). A rare opportunity to acquire such striking artifacts. Due to delicate nature of these maps premium shipping may be required.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
