1796 C-2 R4. PCGS graded Fine-15. Sharpness near VF20 but there are a few too many light contact marks on an otherwise smooth, choice planchet. The notable marks are a pair of very fine hairline scratches down the portrait and several small, light rim nicks or bumps on both sides, strongest at the bottom of the reverse. A good identifying mark is a dull nick resting on the left top of the O in OF. Choice glossy medium brown and light chocolate fading to slightly darker chocolate and olive brown in protected areas. The date and legends are complete and strong. A very nice example of the key date in the half cent series. Our grade is consistent with the slab grade. Weight 84.7 grains. The Cohen-2 With Pole designation and Carvin Goodridge provenance are noted on the PCGS label. (PCGS #35098).
Estimated Value $25,000-UP.
