1797 C-3b R4 Low Head with Lettered Edge Basal State-1. Many of the details are consistent with a coin grading at least VG7, but this one was banged up quite a bit leaving most of the designs flattened almost beyond recognition. The 97 of the date, most of LIBERTY, half of the portrait, and about a quarter of the reverse legend remain visible. Fortunately the edge lettering escaped the attack and those letters are complete and strong. Weight 82.2 grains.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
