1787 Connecticut Draped Bust Left Miller 24-FF Rarity-7- F15. Sharpness near VF30 but there are three fine pin scratches on the obverse extending from rim to rim and intersecting in the center. The scratches are old and blend into the natural toning, but they are hard to miss. The only other mark is a small chip out of the rim under the bust. Rather glossy olive brown with light steel brown toning covering the devices, the two-tone effect accenting the designs and adding to the eye appeal, which is decent in spite of the scratches. The devices are smooth but the fields show extremely fine granularity under the toning. The right edge on both sides is softly struck, as usual on this variety. The date is bold and the legends are strong except for NEC and ET LIB, which are missing in the weakly impressed area. This piece has better detail than the Perkins example, which was called "probably finest known" in the catalog. And the variety was missing in the Taylor, Oechsner, Norweb, and Ford collections. In addition, this piece came from the famous collection of Dr. Thomas Hall, who wrote the attribution on the edge in white ink. The type is listed on page 62 in the "Redbook." Weight 153.3 grains.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
