1809 S-280 R2 Double Struck VG8+. Turban Head. Glossy chocolate and steel. Close to VG10, especially on the reverse. This cent was boldly double struck. The first strike was normal and centered on the planchet. The second strike was also centered on the reverse but rotated about 10 degrees clockwise from the first impression. As a result, the legend reads UNITED STATES OFMERICA. The second strike on the obverse was against a new blank planchet positioned 20% off center to K-7.5 creating an off-center obverse brockage on the second planchet. An impressive mint error in choice condition.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
