1824 N-2 R2 PCGS graded MS64+ Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Choice lustrous mint red mellowing to steel brown and olive with about a third of the faded red remaining. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet giving this cent exceptional eye appeal. A speck of dark toning nestled between the L & I in LIBERTY, another on the bottom edge of the upright of E in ONE, and a swipe of darker bluish steel toning at S-O into the wreath below are the best identifying marks. E-MDS. There is no crumbling inside the top of the 4 or inside the top of the N in CENT, but there is crumbling inside the top of the N in ONE. Called MS65 and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #35716. Bland says MS65 and CC#1 by itself in his census.
Our grade is MS65 as well (PCGS shot a bit low on this one). An impressive gem cent that comes with an impressive provenance. The attribution and Fitzgerald provenance are shown on the PCGS label.
Population 1; none higher in RB. Estimated Value $10,000-UP.
