1824 N-4 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous steel brown and light chocolate with subtle overtones of light bluish steel. At least 10% of the mint red remains visible. The only marks are a swipe of darker bluish steel toning from star 7 down to IB in LIBERTY with a lighter extension down to the cheek, plus traces of an old fingerprint on the reverse. EDS. Sharp inner circle segments show at the dentil tips from star 11 clockwise to star 8, and there is a clear arc line between the bases of the second S in STATES and the adjacent O in OF. Additional fine die preparation lines are visible on hard, smooth fields. The always-present die cracks at stars 5-6 and from the 24 through stars 13-11 are very light (an uncracked die state is unknown, this being the earliest seen). Called MS65 and tied for CC#2 honors in the Bland census.
Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Fitzgerald provenance are shown on the PCGS label.
Population 1; 1 finer in 66. Estimated Value $5,000-UP.
