Hagen, Walter (1892-1969) American golfer who won eleven professional majors, making him third behind Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods; he had 45 PGA wins in his career and captained the Ryder Cup six times. He raised the status of professional golfers and was instrumental in popularizing golf; in 1974, he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Paxon Hollow Golf Club score card signed on the cover by Hagen, Johnny Beadle, Marty Lyons, and C[larence] Ehresmore. The club was in Delaware County, PA. A second score card, dated April 18, 1936, holds the scores for an exhibition game played by Walt, John, Toby, and Clarence and is signed by a witness. Accompanied by a contemporary newspaper article about the match in which Hagen is called "national pro golf ace," Beadle is identified as "home professional," Lyons as "Llanerch tutor," and Ehresman, as "Eagles Mere, Philadelphia's medal play champion."
