The document is the defendant's answer in a lawsuit between the Board of Education of the City of Canton, plaintiff, and James A. Saxton, defendant. McKinley was a young lawyer and newly married (five months) at this time, but had already served as Stark County prosecutor from 1869-71; failing reelection, he went back into private practice.
