(1859) Washington Sansom Medal in Red Bronze Baker-72A NGC graded MS66. Beautiful satiny mahogany brown. Strongly struck and perfectly centered on a very thick planchet. Virtually flawless. The only marks, and they are barely visible, are a light contact mark that skips through the right top of the 7 in the 1797 date and a tiny planchet chip under the O in WASHINGTON. These impressive restrikes of the extremely rare 1797 originals were made by the US Mint between 1859 and some time in the 1870's. Looks superior to the two Norweb examples. Plain edge, diameter 40.8 millimeters, weight not shown on the NGC label but it should be about 570 grains. Estimated Value $1,000-UP
