[Roosevelt, Franklin] Crystal Goblet Created To Celebrate His First Inauguration. Signed on the bottom by the artist, "Vernay," the goblet is 6¼" in height and 4" in diameter. Around the sides of the goblets are three etchings: a bust of Roosevelt within a decorative border, with "1933" above and "Fiat" below; two birds within a border of leaves and berries with "Repeal of the 18th Amendment, Dec. 7th, 1933"; and a Federal Eagle with "The New Deal" below. Etched around the lip of the goblet is: "Franklin D. Roosevelt 32nd President of the United States Inaugurated March 4th 1933." Around the base: "Gov of New York State 1929-33…Asst. Sec. of Navy 1913-20."
This goblet was one of two given by the artist to Theodore Roosevelt Archibald, who was a New York City hotel manager. Mr. Archibald was told by the artist that he had created a dozen of the goblets. Unfortunately, the other goblet given to Mr. Archibald was broken in a cleaning accident. Another of these goblets was sold by this company in April 2004 for over $4,000.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,000.
