Braintree Decr 22nd 1763 Recd of John Adams Four Pounds Twelve Shillings of lawful Money in Part for an action commenced in favour of Capt Thatcher very scarce Elijah Beldus." The receipt is signed by Jonathan Webb, below which is a notation, "All but the signature in the hand writing of John Adams. C.F.A.," written by Charles Francis Adams (1807-86), editor, politician, and diplomat who was the son of John Quincy Adams and grandson of John Adams. He wrote a biography about his grandfather. Matted with a 4¼ x 3¼" engraving of John Adams and framed to an overall size of 21¼ x 15¼".
