Truman, Harry S. Memoirs by Harry S. Truman, 2 volumes, both signed and inscribed on the half-title page to the Honorable David E. Bell. Volume I is inscribed, "To the Honorable David E. Bell with affectionate regards and with great appreciation of his efficient service while these events were happening. Harry S Truman / Independence / Jan. 5, 1956." Volume II is inscribed, "To Honorable David E. Bell from Harry S Truman 5/5/56." Volumes are fine, but cases for both are worn; Truman wrote Bell's name on both cases and added "From Harry S Truman" on one.
From 1947 to 1951, David Bell (1919-2000) alternated between a position on the staff at the Bureau of the Budget, and a position as a special assistant to President Harry S. Truman. President Kennedy named him director of the U. S. Office of Management and Budget (1961-62), then director of the Agency for International Development. In 1966, he became Executive Vice President of the Ford Foundation.
