Frankfurter, Felix (1882-1965) Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1939-62). He helped found the American Civil Liberties Union and was a noted advocate of judicial restraint in the judgments of the Court.
Autograph letter signed, 2pp, on Supreme Court stationery, 2pp, 6½ x 4¼", Washington, D.C., May 21, 1940. Matted with a portrait of Frankfurter and framed to 24 x 19¼". Letter is fine; frame needs replacing. Congratulating a friend on his marriage. In part: "…Someday we hope to know your Elinor. For the moment we invoke the mercies of the world on you both. You were sweet to think of us--and we regret that we shall have to be elsewhere on your great day. Come and see us here one of these days and bring your bride…."
