Pratt, "General" Daniel, Jr (1809-87) American itinerant speaker, author, performance artist, eccentric, and poet. Autograph sentiment signed, "the Great American Traveller / Born in Prattville, Chelsea [Massachusetts] April 11th 1809 / Boston Oct 17th 1885, Daniel Pratt," 2 x 7", affixed to a 3½ x 7½" sheet. Some toning and soiling. A carpenter by trade, Pratt became delusional and wandered around the country, frequenting college campuses in New England, where he would sometimes "lecture" to hundreds of students. Pratt was convinced, among other things, that he had been elected president but not allowed to take office. He was humored as the "great American traveler" and there are records of his visits to various campuses, but no example of his writing. This is a rare example.
Estimated Value $500 - 800.
