1856 Breen 1-C Proof-Only Rarity-4. NGC graded Proof 67 Brown. Very attractive bluish steel and olive brown with traces of faded mint color on the obverse and at least 10% of the reverse. No spots or stains, only microscopic hairlines in the fields from perfection. Sharply struck except for some weakness in the dentils right of the date. This variety shows strong doubling on CENT and the ribbon below. Clearly superior to the single example in the fabulous Missouri Cabinet Collection (our sale, 26 January 2014, lot 224); probably one of the finest known of the variety.
Our grade is Proof-65. Estimated Value $15,000-UP.
