1847 N-19 R1 Repunched 4 MS62+. Choice lustrous bluish steel brown with at least 5% of the mint red remaining. Covered with attractive satiny mint luster. Would rate a slightly higher grade except for a small chip out of the planchet on the rim left of star 1 and another on the rim at star 5, both as struck. A small spot of darker toning shows at the dentils over the left side of star 7 and a couple more at D-S. Excellent eye appeal in spite of the minor defects.
E-MDS, die state a late. The repunching on the 4 is clear and the die lines at ONE CENT remain visible. A beautiful cent, very close to MS63. CC#4 behind a trio of very slightly finer examples in the Grellman census.
Removed from an NGC slab graded MS65BN (NGC label included). DWH #2067.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
