1850 N-9 R2. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints, two-thirds of the original color remaining, mostly on the obverse. Nearly flawless. The only defects are a few microscopic ticks on the eyebrow, a small spot of darker toning (not carbon) on the lower right point of star 5, and extremely faint traces of a fingerprint at star 12.
LDS, die state c. The crack at ME is clear and the obverse fields are reflective thanks to a fresh die lapping that removed the die lines at stars 5 & 6.
Our grade is MS65. Tied for CC#1 with one other example in the same die state. A very attractive gem cent.
PCGS population 2; 1 finer in MS66RB at PCGS for the variety. DWH #2138
(PCGS # 405884) .
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
